The Titletrack Jukebox Player for the Mac/slinke combo handles sorting by 
having both an Artist field and also an 'offset' field that allows the user
to specify which word in the Artist field (i.e. the 'offset') the user
wishes to sort by.

For example:

Artist: Merle Haggard
Offset: 2  (Haggard)


Artist: The Statler Brothers
Offset: 2 (Statler)

Artist: Tom T. Hall
Offset: 3 (Hall)


You get the idea by now, I'm sure. <g>

BTW, the program interface doen't require specifying the offset _number_,
but rather the offset _word_, which is selectable from a menu.
