Ron, I've shoehorned win98 onto a 386/16 with 300MB, 20MB RAM, and 640x480.
It ran fine, but loaded slowly. When CDJ switched to the MDB format, the
initial program loading time (800 CD's) soared to 20 minutes.

So I upgraded.

It's now running on a Celeron/330 with 1.4G, 32MB RAM, and 800x600 on an old
15" CRT. There is no significant load delay (30 seconds). The biggest
problem was that the laptop had a VERY VERY slow disk, and not much buffer,
and the db loading appears to go record by record.

Based on its present performance, and the likelihood of adding more CD's and
responsibilities to this machine, I'd say it's quite adequate. But I
wouldn't want to drop down below, say, a PII/200. Probably ANY contemporary
disk will be fast enough -- I think the laptop was a fluke. This means that,
as others have remarked, virtually any laptop of less than 3 years age would
probably do.

My *recommended* minimum would be Celeron 233, 32MB RAM, 1G disk, 800x600
display. But of course you may want to run other things, in which case 2G
could be mandatory.

Slainthe,

ac
