[slinkelist] Number of output zones?

I thought the Slink-e could send IR to 8 different output zones using IR
cables that plugged into the Slink-e on one end and attached to the IR
windows on the other. This would let one control up to 8 identical IR
devices independently.

Reviewing the writeup it looks like only one IR transmitter is included in
the main box and you have to buy a seperate module for the next 7.

Did I misunderstand this?

How far can the Slink-e be from the IR devices that need to be controlled?
How far in practice from the PC on the RS232 cable?
