[slinkelist] DCOM in a Peer to Peer Network

As a complete beginner to DCOM, I began to try to set it and CDJ up so
that I could control CDJ (running on my desktop in the den) from my
laptop anywhere in the house. I use a wireless network throughout the
house.
Can DCOM be used in a Peer-to-Peer situation or does one machine (my
desktop) need to be running as a server? Currently, both of my machines
run Windows ME. When I try to run dcomcnfg, it tells me that I need to
change each machine to user-level security, which appears to require a
server somewhere on the network to hold and manage a user list.
I don't really want to convert either machine to a server at this
point. What are my other options if DCOM cannot run in peer-to-peer?
Is VNC the next best choice?
THanks for the advice.
Cheers
Justin
