I concur with Mike. Homeseer for home automation; Slinke as the Transmission interface component to IR and Control A1. Slinke/CDJ to control the CD changers. I use a different interface for the reception of IR since I wanted to standardize on a single remote IR protocol for the "house" and I wanted the recognition of the device codes/key codes of the IR transmitter to be absolute and off-loaded from the pC. The IR receiver device only costs $40 and accepts standard NEC256 protocol. The only thing I want in Homeseer (thatis currently missing) is the ability to communicate with another computer on the LAN via TCP/IP so that my Homeseer system and the HT control PC (my own code) could easily communicate and share information.
