In Response To: S/P-DIF Interface (internally) on CD players? (Jon Welfringer)

It's easier than you can imagine. I have modified all of my CX200 players to have a digital output. As you probably already know, most manufacturers build most of their models from the same PC boards. All I had to do was cut a hole in the back panel, and solder the Sharp SPDIF transmitter into place (as well as add a couple of bypass caps and a couple of jumpers in the appropriate places) The Sharp GPF type transmitters can be hard to get, but usually cost less than $10. For all of my new digital projects, I'm using the Toshiba TORX173 and TOTX173 which only cost about $4.50 and are readily available. They don't have the same mounting pattern as the Sharp part, so they won't solder directly into the CX200, but it would be trivial to hook them up.
